Seit dem 05.08.2020 ist es offiziell: Die Beschäftigten der N26 Operations GmbH und der N26 GmbH werden einen Betriebsrat wählen. Mitte August finden die Wahlversammlungen statt und damit beginnt der Wahlprozess.
Grundsätzlich sind Betriebsratswahlen nichts Ungewöhnliches. Im Falle von N26 ist es aber zumindest ein Schritt, den viele nicht erwartet hätten. Junge Startups und Fintechs wie N26 genießen den Ruf, sehr gute Arbeitsbedingungen zu haben und die Beschäftigten zu beteiligen.
Einen Betriebsrat zu gründen, bedeutet Demokratie im Betrieb und das unter schützenden Bedingungen. Menschen, die Betriebsratswahlen initiieren, wollen gestalten und weiterentwickeln. Sie haben einen Gerechtigkeitssinn und wollen diesem Ausdruck verleihen.
Und genau das passiert gerade bei N26: Eine Vielzahl mutiger Kolleginnen und Kollegen gehen es nun an und gründen einen der ersten Fintech-Betriebsräte. ver.di bietet den Initiierenden dabei die Plattform, um ihr Ziel zu erreichen.
Die Betriebsratswahl verfolgt nicht nur das Ziel, ein Sprachrohr zu wählen, sondern konkrete Veränderungen zu erreichen: Mehr Entgelttransparenz, weniger Arbeitsdruck, mehr faire und sichere Beschäftigung bei N26. Die Wahl ist also nur der erste Schritt.
It’s official: the employees of N26 Operations GmbH and N26 GmbH are electing a Works Council. As announced yesterday, the process starts by voting for the Electoral Board in the middle of August.
In and of itself, a company electing a Works Council is nothing out of the ordinary. In the case of N26, however, this step comes as a surprise for many: early-stage startups and FinTech companies like N26 have a reputation for excellent working conditions and employee participation, so some consider employee representation at startups unnecessary.
Having a Works Council at a company means having more democracy in a legally sanctioned framework. Employees founding Works Councils want to build a fair workplace, and develop a productive cooperation between employees and management. Such people have a strong sense of justice, and they want to see it reflected in the company’s day-to-day operations.
And that’s exactly what is happening at N26: A group of courageous employees have taken the first step, and created one of the first Works Councils in the German FinTech scene. ver.di is supporting the initiators of the Works Council along the way.
The Works Council at N26 will be more than just a mouthpiece for employee issues and concerns – it comes with a list of specific objectives. The initiators are pushing for more transparency around salaries, less workplace pressure, fair hiring and job security at N26. The election of the Works Council is only the first step in achieving these goals.
